Talk about trying to avoid any personal contact, here is the latest trend sweeping scared Congressmen everywhere. The telephone town hall meeting.
It appears Congressman Ellsworth has gotten on the train with this. It is mid morning on Saturday.
Rep. Brad Ellsworth will be host a telephone town hall to discuss healthcare reform with 8thDistrict constituents at 9:30 a.m. CDT Saturday. In order to comply with Indiana’s automatic dial laws, constituents who wish to participate must sign-up at the 8th District Online Office: www.ellsworth.house.gov.
The telephone town hall will operate similarly to a traditional town hall format. Ellsworth will deliver an opening statement and will take questions about reforms to the health care system from participants throughout the 8th District.
The telephone town hall is a continuation of Ellsworth’s efforts to seek input from 8th District Hoosiers on healthcare reform proposals being considered in Congress. The second-term Congressman is holding one-on-one meetings withconstituents this month, as well as roundtable discussions will local health care experts.
For more information on health care reform, constituents are encouraged to visit the 8th District Online Office at www.ellsworth.house.gov and click on Understanding Health Care Reform. The website provides visitors with the full text of the House’s version of the health care reform bill, proposed changes to the legislation, and information debunking common reform myths. Constituents can also take Ellsworth’s online health care survey.
I will be curious to see if the media calls in and reports on the results of the meeting. I also want to know how they will handle constituent questions. In a public forum you know when it is an appropriate time to ask, you know hand up, etc. On a telephone call how will you know? Also, what is to stop his staff from screening questions and only taking questions they want the Congressman to have. I don’t like this format, but I will give the Congressman the benefit of the doubt.
